Monday Manifesto

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize:  a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child - our own two eyes. All is a miracle."
- Thich Nhat Hanh

Seriously, don't you agree that some days, being present is the real challenge?

We have so much going on in our lives - people proudly wear 'busy' tags like a badge! But really, feeling our feet walk on the earth is the greater achievement than running from task to task, breathless and disconnected, and simply ticking things off the list.

So today, let's focus on stopping the 'ticking' of the boxes, and instead let's really be part of the moment. I spent years not being present, and let's be honest - most of us are told that DOING is more important than BEING so it's no wonder we are so disconnected from our reality.

We feel ill - we take a headache tablet to 'fix' it.
We are sad - we work late so we don't have to focus on it.
We get stressed - we drink a bottle of wine so chill out.

When I teach yin, I notice how much of a challenge it is for students to be still and be uncomfortable. I'll never forget in a teacher training when Sarah Powers said yin is about being uncomfortable, and being ok with that, in other words - being comfortable with being uncomfortable. But every night I teach it, I see how it scares the absolute life out of people.

Smoking is comfortable - but it doesn't mean it's good for you! So can you imagine the ease we'd find if we stopped endlessly searching for ease and comfort? And instead found happiness, real happiness, in this present moment?

Give it a go :)
