The 4 Agreements - #1

Be impeccable with your word:
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
This means avoiding gossip, lies, empty promises and other ways we cause problems with our words. Say only what you mean, and realise that you can cause damage if you're not careful with what you say.
Many people don't recognise the power of their words and see the harm that can be caused with speaking carelessly, thoughtlessly or agressively. Most of us are aware that screaming at someone may be upsetting to them, but subtle little digs at them, or gossip behind their backs, can hurt others more than we realise, and in hurting them, we hurt ourselves. This is an important, but difficult one to follow entirely. It's a great goal to aspire to.
* what is the tape that plays in your head most often? Do you tell yourself you are fat, or ugly, or hopeless, or lazy? Often we will be nice to others but speak to ourselves with language we would never be so unkind as to speak to others with.
* life is hard, as well as joyful. When it becomes tough at work or in relationships, do you huff or sigh? Do you beep your horn in the car? What message and what words - physical or spoken - are you sending? What is the language you speak?
In the 4 Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the 4 Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.
